STAC NOTE STAC NOTE
CUSTOMIZED MODEM STRINGS
(Applies to ReachOut Versions 4.X, 5.X)
STAC FAX 8305 (10/95)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
BACKGROUND
ReachOut has a large number of modems from which you may choose
when configuring your communications setup. If your modem is not
listed, you may choose a modem similar to yours, or the generic A
Hayes Compatible 2400. Stac is always updating the list of
supported modems, and you may be able to find your modem on the
latest list. Refer to StacFaxes 8703 and 8304 for information on
basic communications configurations and dialing.
SOLUTION
- Ensure you have the latest modem table.
- Configure the generic modem for your system.
- Write a modem string.
Ensure you have the latest modem table
Stac is constantly updating its modem table as new modems are
tested. Download the latest modem table from the Stac BBS at
(619) 794-3711. The filename to download is MTABLE.EXE. Place it
in your Reachout directory and run it to generate a new table.
This table may list your modem and you may simply select it from
the modem list.
Configure the generic modem for your system
From the modem list, choose A Hayes Compatible 2400. Set your
communications speed to match your UART chip (19,200 for UART
8250 / 38,400 for UART 16550).
Write a modem string
See the ReachOut on-line Help in Windows for detailed information
on writing your own modem string. Open ReachOut Help and click on
the Configuration section. Choose 'How To...', then Define a New
Modem.
